Introduction and case
As part of Telenors process, they aim to enhance Telenors IoT solutions on the "My Business" pages to provide better control over a company's IoT devices. I was tasked with designing a fleet management system for IoT devices for Telenor's corporate clients.
When I started the project, I did not know a lot about IoT or what Telenor offers in terms of IoT-SIM cards, devices, coverage, and modems. "Telenor IoT" has provided IoT solutions to an impressive number of major suppliers worldwide, such as Scania, Volvo, Koenigsegg, Husqvarna, Xylem, and Hitachi.
The process
I wasn't involved in the initial research phase as it had already been completed. This meant that I only were supposed to prototype, and test what I made. This made me a lot more experienced with digital prototyping and gave me great insight in how to use Figma more effectively. The best part of the process was that I was given no leashes, and I did not not have any restrictions because this was a whole new concept that has not been ideated before.
I took a small inspirations from other IoT-GUIs like Microsoft Azure visual desktop, Amazon AWS and others. It was truly an educational experience.
In the insight, it was made clear that most of Telenors customers and partners uses laptops or big displays to manage their devices. Thats why there is only desktop versions.
Results and experience
After a bunch of hours on site, I was finally able to show my GUI to Telenor Stakeholders. It resulted in low-fidelity iterations and a few iterations of high-fidelity Figma prototypes and a lot of valuable insights for future work. I learned a lot about an UX-designers role in a big company like Telenor, and how I cooperate and work together in interdisciplinary groups
First sketches (Low-fidelity)
I started as usual with lo-fi sketching on paper to get my ideas out of my head and down on the paper. This resulted in a rough sketching of the initial wireframe for the solution. After this I took these sketches into Figma and started making digital prototypes.
First iteration (High-fidelity)
This collection shows the first sketches from Figma.
Final iteration after workshop with partners
This collection shows the last iteration made in my internship in Telenor. A lot has changed since the older generations.
