Application created specifically to promote, and sign up for voluntary work in Gjøvik

FALL 2022

Introduction

On a mission from Gjøvik Kommune, we got to choose between 5 different problem statements. My group chose the problem that involved volunteer work.

The problem with the current system for volunteer work, was that it was outdated, poorly maintained and hard to understand. Much of the problem was also that most people actually wanted to do volunteer work, but only if they were asked.

My role as the only interaction designer in the design group, was to be responsible for the digital prototype, and building it. I was involved in the whole process, but more deeply the prototyping phase. The whole solution is based of insight and research of the users. The whole process from start to finish took roughly 4 months.

The group included two Graphic design students, one product design student, one webcoding student and me an interaction design student.

Solution

So based on the design thinking process and user insight, we created this mobile application that makes it much easier to get information, register as a volunteer and to chat with the the volunteer centre. The application is set to encourage and engage more people to do volunteer work. To top it all off and create more enthusiasm, you could share the different requests and activities with contacts and friends to earn prizes or gift cards.
